This painting sets the Ibeji figures in a dreamlike state of emptiness (spiritual realm). Historically, if a twin baby died, the parents would seek consultation with a Babalawo, to guide them on selecting a carver to create an Ere Ibeji / Ibeji figure. The figure is thought to be a receptacle for the spiritual energy of the deceased twin.
