Kande Ushafa joined the Abuja Pottery Training Centre in 1963, hailing from the nearby village of Ushafa, 20 miles east of Abuja. A skilled potter, she initially crafted hand-built domestic pottery for family use and local markets. At Abuja, she emerged as one of the foremost female potters, contributing significantly to the Centre's legacy.
